At the heart of the Assisi Foundation’s mission is a simple yet profound idea:

Universal patterns are always at work.

Universal and archetypal patterns are continually manifesting in our lives, our relationships, our institutions, and our world. They appear in our dreams and relationships, in our personal struggles and developmental transitions, in organizations and cultures, and even play a prominent role in the unconscious dynamics creating conflicts that divide nations. When we recognize these patterns, we gain another way of understanding conflict, difference, suffering, transformation, and possibility.

The application of universal and Archetypal Pattern Analysis offers a framework for engaging complexity without reducing it—and for creating new possibilities where old patterns have become entrenched. When we learn to recognize these patterns, we gain another way of seeing into the domain of Psyche and Soul, which have shaped humanity since the beginning of time.

The symbolic and archetypal perspective allows us to move beyond simply asking, “What is happening?” and begin asking:
